How much of a difference can $1 make to help the homeless in Virginia Beach? My answer is "All the Difference." Virginia Beach has about 450,000 residents, and 20% of people in the United States attend Church. So that means 90,000 people attend Church in Virginia Beach every week. If every one of those people gave $1 a month to PiN to help the homeless that would be $1,080,000. That’s correct. One million dollars a year to help the homeless, just from churches.
Ok, so I know your thinking, "There is no way to get every Church in Virginia Beach to give to PiN." Why shouldn't they give to PiN? PiN doesn’t receive any money from the Federal, State, or City Government. Being a Christ-Based Ministry, we don’t receive money from the government because we don’t want to be prevented from sharing the love of Christ, and the message of Christ with the homeless of Virginia Beach. This means that PiN will not survive and prosper without the Church being an integral part of it, and I think that is by design. I believe God has designed PiN so it wouldn’t be able to survive without the support of His Church.
1 Corinthians 12:27 says, “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” PiN sees us as the arm of the Church to reach out to the homeless. We want to partner with your Church.
So what can you do to help? Ask your Church leaders what they do to help the poor in Virginia Beach. If they currently don’t support any organizations that help the poor or if they are interested in having an even bigger impact, the Executive Director of PiN, Dallas Stamper, would like to talk to your Church leadership about how to become a PIN partner.
