“Wow, you guys do so much here. How is all this funded?"
Hello, my name is Carrie Mayer and I’m PiN’s grant manager/volunteer coordinator. I hear this question all the time. My typical answer is…”by people like you.” But first, let me tell you what we do:
PiN exists to provide food, clothing, shelter, and free medical care for people that are either homeless or extremely poor. The ultimate focus is to help the homeless of Hampton Roads transform their lives by meeting them where they are and sharing a God that loves them and wants a relationship with them.
Sometimes our beliefs lead us make some hard choices about where we accept money from. We chose to only accept funds that don’t dictate us away from our mission statement. PiN is funded by a few different categories: churches, businesses, individuals, our three fundraisers, and a few grants. This is where I need your help. In order to help the homeless in our community, we need to obtain more grants. Help guide me in finding grants. You might be thinking….”I don’t work at a foundation with millions of dollars to give away”. Although we would love a connection at the larger foundations, would you consider asking your employer or church if they have any grant opportunities for a local nonprofit which is helping to change the lives of the homeless in our community?
